Did you plan to go hiking in the Lake District or dust of your mountain bike for a trip to the Scottish Highlands? Unfortunately, the coronavirus emergency forced many of us to change our plans and daily routines. Even though most gyms are closed, it’s still important to exercise. Exercising at home is a great way to maintain both physical and mental well-being. All of us at CheckMyBus would like to share some advice to keep you active while we all wait to travel by bus again to our favourite destinations.

1. Establish a routine

1. Establish a routine

First of all, it’s important to set a daily routine. Try not to wake up too late. Before breakfast, we recommend you drink a glass of water with lemon to reactivate your body. Then, take a few minutes to stretch and mediate on your favourite exercises. When you shop for groceries, avoid taking the elevator. Using stairs is a good habit to sneak a bit of exercise in your daily errands.

2. Try something new

2. Try something new

Playing sports at home is easier than you think. There are many YouTube channels dedicated to fitness and many gyms have online classes. There is something for everyone: yoga, Pilates, Zumba. A quick internet search will be enough to find the most suitable workout for you. Finally, you can try something new from the comfort of your home and who knows, you might become an enthusiast. Maybe by October, you’ll feel fit enough to run in the London Marathon.

3. Don’t give up!

3. Don't give up!

Some days will be more difficult than others. However, the important thing is not to give up! Our advice is to always keep your final goal in mind. Whether you want to lose weight, stay active or build muscle, don’t lose sight of your goal! While we all have to stay inside, it’s the perfect chance to get our bodies ready for that next big trip. In time, you’ll feel more than ready to visit Europe’s most beautiful mountain resorts, beaches and trails. Have you heard of the London to Brighton Cycle Ride? As the name implies, the route connects London and Brighton. It’s a great chance to enjoy some beautiful scenery while you pedal!

4. Keep the whole family active

4. Keep the whole family active

If you’re living with family members, make sure to take care of them too. Help your kids stay active by making obstacle course in the living room. Don’t let them spend too much time in front of computers and tablets. Instead, why not have a dance party? Older relatives should get active as well. Daily tasks like chores or simply walking around the house should help do the trick.

5. Be creative

5. Be creative

The first excuse for not exercising at home is, “I don’t have the necessary tools at home!” Our solution? Get creative! For a home workout, all you need is a rug or fitness mat and a little imagination. Two kg water bottles are perfect for weightlifting! Why not wear a backpack for some added weight when doing squats? This is the time to be creative and let your imagination run free. You may even develop a cost-effective routine long-term.

Finally, don’t forget to relax your muscles after each practice to avoid pain or injury. If you can integrate a little exercise in your daily life, you can feel a little more energetic and positive. Travelers never rest!
